The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF) and Film & Publication BoardThe Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF) and Film & Publication Board(FPB) conveys appreciation and gratitude to all South African Young filmmakers who submitted more than 100 films for the first ever Online Youth Film Festival 2020.

At the time of this release and launching the YouTube Channel with fewer subscribers, The Online Youth FilmAt the time of this release and launching the YouTube Channel with fewer subscribers, The Online Youth Film Festival received more than 700 subscribers and managed to attract 91,315 views from the 50 selected films.

The digital event invited filmmakers under the age of 35 to submit short films, anything 1 to 30 minutes focusingon Documentary, Comedy and Fiction, the YouTube channel was launched on 24th June and ended on 30June 2020.The top three most watched online YouTube films, winning a share of more than R40 000 in audio visual equipment, accounted for more than 40% of the total festival viewership. Congratulations to our winners andwe wish them success as they contribute to the advancement of local audio visual industry.

SA LOCKDOWN EDITION by Lehlogonolo Mathekgane with 43 768 views (1st Prize)

3AM TAXI by Mohlaba John Maphakela with 16 466 views (2nd Prize)

QUARANTINE DIARIES by Kagiso Latane with 14 509 views (3rd Prize)

We would also love to thank South African and the Global community for their support and we urge you tocontinue to be our youngsters biggest fans by sharing, subscribing and watching festival films. Some of theFestival’s super fans won 5GB of data.“We had minor technical glitches however we managed to get on track and ultimately had a resoundingsuccess. Our Young Filmmakers displayed creativity and innovation and have immense talent. Most of the filmscreened were self funded.” said GFC’s Desmond Mthembu.
