Black Sheep Multimedia, a new and dynamic production company, chose Fox Street, Johannesburg as the location for the music video for Somizi Mhlongo’s latest album called The Divo.

Director/producer Sabelo Mahlangu spoke to In Focus about the shoot and the reasons for choosing this location.

Mahlangu says, “We are a relatively new company which started two years ago. I work with my brother Brian and we have offices in the Mills building in Newtown. We handle commercial briefs and do some animation and we were delighted to handle this music video. We have another three lined up, including a shoot in France.”

He further adds, “The intersection of Fox and Loveday streets provided us with the ideal backdrop for the music video. It has street culture and also reminds me of the times I walked around this same area during my childhood. There really is nowhere else like it that I know of.  When we received the brief for this video I immediately pictured this location and decided that the shoot must take place at night in order to achieve the shadows and texture that I was looking for. We shot on a Panasonic P2 and will be doing the post production with our own Final Cut Pro suite.”

Mahlangu expressed his gratitude towards the Gauteng Film Commission for their assistance. “Everything went according to plan, including the presence of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, and I am delighted with the results.”

The video will be shown on MTV and SABC 1.
