The City of Johannesburg has launched ‘Joburg 100’ an initiative that is aimed at fostering greater cohesion within the city’s cultural sector as well as raising the profile of the cultural industries within the metro area.  Amongst others the project seeks to ensure that data on the performance of the cultural industries are incorporated in the city’s annual State of the City report.

According to Steven Sack, Director for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Joburg 100 seeks to facilitate debate on how Johannesburg can apply the Creative City concept – a concept which is increasingly applied internationally to successful creative cities and is based on an explicit acknowledgement of the impact that the cultural industries has on promoting the growth and economic success of the city.

Members of the creative community are invited to participate in a questionnaire which will assist the city to compile a ‘creative profile’ for Johannesburg.
