Nominations for the second South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) have been announced. According to organisers, 245 entries have been received for this year’s awards with Johannesburg-based Curious Pictures leading the race with an impressive 35 nominations garnered.

Eligible work, covering the period November 2005 to January 2007, were considered by a panellist of 60 member judges for the various categories of feature film, documentaries, student and short films, and television. Bunny Chow, Goodbye Bafana and Catch a Fire were nominated in the best Feature Film category, whilst When We Were Black, Good Provider and The Lab were nominated in the Best TV drama category.

The SAFTA Golden Horn Award announcements will be made on the 27th of October 2007 and will be held at Gallagher Estates, Johannesburg. The event will be broadcast on SABC2 from 18:30 to an estimated 12 million home viewers.
