Film Event Management, publishers of The Filmmakers Guide to South Africa, has launched the ‘Go Green’ initiative in association with Food and Trees for Africa. ‘Go Green’ is aimed at raising awareness of environmentally responsible production practices amongst the broader filmmaking community.

According to Kathy English-Brower the initiative is aimed at making the South African film industry the most eco-friendly and conscious industry in the world by allowing filmmakers to off-set their carbon footprint and environmental impacts by planting trees. As filmmakers are heavy users of air- and other vehicular transport, the industry contributes directly to carbon emissions.

“South Africa’s film industry is world renowned for its quality of production and the added value that it applies to every aspect of the production experience. ‘Go Green’ is aimed at ensuring that our industry responds proactively to global concerns around climate change”, says Kathy English-Brower.
