Arts Alive and AFDA, with the support of the Gauteng Film Commission, has partnered on the hosting of a Young Filmmakers Expo to coincide with this year’s Arts Alive festival which will take place in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The Expo will be held at MuseumAfrika from the 12th to the 14th of September 2007 and will allow young, aspirant filmmakers the opportunity to learn more about the film industry and career opportunities available to prospective students.

As part of the expo, 3-5 minute short films, shot by learners from Gauteng high schools, will be screened as well as a selection of several award winning international short films.

The AFDA and Gauteng Young Filmmakers Project is a project recently launched by AFDA and the Gauteng Film Commission aimed at introducing High School scholars to the art of filmmaking. As part of the project learners were not only instructed in filmmaking but also given the opportunity to shoot their own 3-5 minute short films to compete for an AFDA student bursary.

In addition to the screenings, interactive workshops will introduce students to a range of technical aspects forming part of the production process including single- and multi camera setup, production and design, editing, sound, animation and special effects.
