Juta and Station Streets in Braamfontein were abuzz recently with a 35-man crew shooting a television commercial for the Daily Sun. And once again, Johannesburg proved to be the perfect setting.

Creating Faith - shooting the Daily Sun commercial
Loli Bishop, Executive Producer for well-known local production company Faith Creations, was enthusiastic about the location.

"I love our city to shoot in. It's a great place, although we do tend to have problems with businesses not being all that film friendly. We did however have assistance from the Gauteng Film Commission and the JMPD which helped a lot.

"We shot the commercial on Super 16mm film and Tai Krige was our Director of Photography. The Director was MQ Ngubane while I produced. The commercial, which features Maiene Nkhahle, portrays the protagonist walking through life with blinkers on, literally and figuratively, until he buys a copy of the Daily Sun newspaper, after which his blinkers fall away and he can live life in all it fullness."

The commercial, was processed at the Film Lab, edited at Riot and transferred at Pudding Telecine Services in Johannesburg. MCC provided the cameras and lights.

Bishop concludes: "I find it absurd that we have to pay R400 an hour for parking. Perhaps this could be brought down to R200 per hour?"
