Keen interest was shown in South Africa and Gauteng, from a commercial production, creative and locations perspective, at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2008 held

SA displays its talents at Cannes Lions
in France last month.

The Gauteng Film Commission formed part of the SA delegation in order to increase brand awareness of the GFC and 'Location Gauteng'; to showcase and expose 'Location Gauteng' to key commercial producers and advertising creatives from around the globe; to network with global commercials industry and advertising stakeholders; and to track international trends affecting the commercial production industry while exploring opportunities for Gatueng commercial producers.

As Johannesburg, Gauteng is Africa's leading commercial production hub, the Festival is key to showcasing local creative talent and skills to the global community. Around 9 000 people from 75 countries descend on Cannes to share ideas, network and hear about latest innovations via seminars and workshops.

In addition to the GFC, the SA delegation included 6 commercial production and post production companies - Groundglass, Moonlighting Films, Media Services, Sub urban, A Step Beyond and Terraplane the Cape Film Commission and the Durban Film Office.

The prestigious The Location Guide hosted their annual networking party, this year at the Majestic Beach Pier, co-hosted by the GFC and Sub urban and attended by over 350 commercials industry stakeholders all received the GFC's latest show-reel highlighting the attractions of Gauteng's film industry.
