AMAA

The Africa Film Academy invites filmmakers to submit their feature, short film and documentary works for the eighth Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), set to take place in April 2012.

The deadline for submissions is 30 December 2011, and the nominations will be announced in February 2012. Submission forms can be downloaded from www.ama-awards.com.

First held in 2005, AMAA is a continent-wide platform to honour and celebrate the best in filmmaking and the professionals who make the industry the pride of Africa.

Each completed entry form must be accompanied by all supporting materials listed on the submission forms, including a synopsis of the film, a list of credits, marketing stills of the film, filmographies of the directors and producers, five DVD copies of the film and proof of the right to submit.

Only films produced and released between December 2010 and December 2011 are eligible for the awards.

All films must indicate year of copyright. The Africa Film Academy will not accept features longer than 120 minutes or short films longer than 40 minutes.

AMAA celebrated its seventh edition on 27 March this year. Held annually in Nigeria, AMAA has a reputation as one of the most glamorous African entertainment industry events of its kind. Evolving from a one-day event, televised live, to a diarised annual African event it is now an established engagement platform for filmmakers, industry professionals and all creative industry stakeholders.

The primary aim of AMAA is to facilitate the development of African film and showcase its social relevance.

Over the years numerous international media representatives, Hollywood celebrities, African politicians, journalists and film industry professionals have attended the award presentation from across Africa and beyond.
