The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) advises production companies wishing to shoot at the various football stadiums dotted around Gauteng to schedule shoots prior to April 2010 and to submit applications via the GFC.

Soccer City
In response to queries from local production companies, the GFC has advised that the standard location rate at Soccer City, Orlando Stadium, Rand Stadium and Dobsonville Stadium is R4 500 per hour, as confirmed by Stadium Management South Africa. The location fee is the same at all four stadiums.

Please note, however, that a company can be charged per hour or per day, based on the time required on site. In addition, further line items come into play depending on the shoot, for example, will the pitch be used, floodlights, security, medical and cleaning requirements. All costing is therefore sent out based on a client's final shoot requirements.

Arrangements for requesting permission to shoot at these four stadiums, as well as at Ellis Park, remain the same and the GFC recommends that applications be submitted via the film commission's offices. The GFC is awaiting confirmation that Loftus Stadium will not be allowing shoots until August 2010.

All principal stadiums will be handed over to FIFA in run up to the FIFA Soccer World Cup South Africa. As this handover might occur during April (final date not yet confirmed), the GFC urges production companies to schedule shoots before April as after this it is likely to be impossible to gain access to the stadiums. In terms of Ellis Park and Soccer City, certain restrictions apply when filming on the pitch and hence approval to filming on pitches will have to be cleared by stadium management, once a full assessment of needs has been completed, in line with FIFA restrictions.
