Over 260 exhibitors have confirmed for this month's Design Indaba Expo at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Plus the Design Indaba Conference has once again ensured an all-star list of speakers from around the world covering all disciplines, says Deborah Webber, Advertising and Promotional Manager.

Let It Out
Design Indaba Expo is now the fastest growing show in the country, hosting some 29 000 visitors, 260 exhibitors and 350 buyers in 2009.

Webber says the Expo "is a 100% local-is-lekker celebration of South Africa's ingrained creativity."

Advertising, architecture, craft, decor, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design and visual media, are all represented.

Each of the exhibitors is evaluated and endorsed by an advisory panel of top South African designers, stylists, critics and industry experts. Setting a high curatorial standard, all products are original, contemporary and innovative, not to mention conceived and manufactured in South Africa.

Sold out for the past five years running, the Design Indaba Conference, running from 24 - 26 February, has become the playing field for the imaginative at heart, drawing fans from creative, corporate and educational sectors alike.

"Following the conference, an unabated festival of South African creativity will explode from 26 to 28 February - the Design Indaba Expo. South Africa's premier showcase of high-end, homegrown design talent, the Design Indaba Expo proudly boasts no imports or derivatives," says Webber.

"After such a creative flash mob in 2009, Design Indaba is celebrating the innate creativity in every South African with its 2010 Let It Out campaign. Inviting every South African from every walk of life and every age to express their creativity, the campaign will culminate in 11 top South African creatives being appointed as our 'national creative team'."

A full daily programme of additional activities include all-day fashion shows, a short-film festival, the new Design Indaba Kids workshops, a suave designer bar, tantalising designer food and daily Pecha Kucha presentations by leading local creatives. Other events include the Creative Freshmen, Over 50 Newbies, the Stand Out Creativity and Big On Bling

Big deals are also par for the course at Design Indaba, considering that "at the 2008 event, Darkie secured a R1.5 million order from Swiss department store Globus - and is still reeling."
