BANG BANG CLUB. The film shot in SA last year features home-grown talent like Frank Rautenbach (Ken Oosterbroek) and Neels van Jaarsveld (Joao Silva) as well as Ryan Phillippe, Malin Akerman & Taylor Kitsch. THE BANG BANG CLUB is one of only 15 Gala presentations at this year's festival.

THE BANG BANG CLUB was the name given to four young photographers, Greg Marinovich, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek and Joao Silva, whose photographs captured the final bloody days of white rule in South Africa and the final demise of apartheid. The film tells the remarkable and sometimes harrowing story of these young men - and the extraordinary extremes they went to in order to capture their pictures & was based on co-authors Marinovich & Joao Silver book by the same name. THE BANG BANG CLUB was directed by Steven Silver.

"It's a great honor to be selected for such a premium platform from a long list of such high caliber films" commented producer Lance Samuels who was in Toronto when the announcement was made. "Being selected alongside films with talent like Robert Redford,

Ben Affleck and Darren Aronofsky behind them is very encouraging. THE BANG BANG CLUB is all over the news here in Canada at the moment and both Steven (director) and I are very excited to see how Canadian audiences will receive the film in September."

THE BANG BANG CLUB was produced by Lance Samuels and Adam Friedlander of Out of Africa Entertainment and Daniel Iron of Foundry Films. Out of Africa Entertainment is also the producing outfit behind the phenomenally successful SCHUKS TSHABALALA'S SURVIVAL GUIDE TO SA currently in cinema locally. SCHUKS TSHABALALA is the 3rd best performing film of all time in SA just after AVATAR and TITANIC.

Another top notch SA based member of THE BANG BANG CLUB team is Philip Miller who composed the music. Philip is widely regarded as one of the best composers around at the moment and also worked on projects like Phillip Noyce's CATCH A FIRE.

A total of 15 Gala films were selected and form part of the 50 title strong lineup at this year's TIFF which runs September 9th to 19th in Toronto. The complete line up also includes premieres like Darren Aronofsky's latest, Robert Redford's film, Ben Affleck's THE TOWN, Ryan Reynolds's BURIED, IT'S A KIND OF FUNNY STORY, NEVER LET ME GO and Michael Winterbottom's new film.
