On 3 and 4 June at NuMetro Montecasino in Johannesburg, Jessica Abroms, who has worked at PIXAR as a technical director for eight years, will present a Master Class covering the following topics: Animation Features & Blockbusters, The International Gaming Environment, and Technical Workplace Flow. There will also be a session for students.

This training initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Services SETA (Sector Education Training Authority), which paid for Abroms' flights, the Cape Film Commission (CFC) and the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), who, thanks to the efforts of Judy Robinson from Converge in Cape Town, have got behind the planning and catering, along with members of Animation South Africa (ASA), to make it all happen. NuMetro is sponsoring the venue - Cine 15 at Montecasino.

Says ASA's Tim Argall: "ASA is a non profit organisation, dedicated to the growth and development of the Animation Industry in South Africa. Together with the SETA and the Cape and Gauteng Film Commissions, we are pouring our efforts into skills transfer. Our objective is to bring international industry professionals here, to do Master Classes on the various fields of our industry. In so doing we will raise local skill levels and become players in one of the fastest growing global industries.

"Our first speaker is Jessica Abroms who has worked at PIXAR as a software developer for eight years. We want to expose Computer Science graduates and students to career possibilities in animation, and to host talks that will inform and inspire local professionals. Jessica is the first of four Top speakers. The following Gurus are planned for later this year: The Simpsons producer Joel Kuwahara, international Industry consultant, Kevin Geiger (who consults to both Disney and Dreamworks), and PIXAR lighting specialist, Jeremy Vickery."

Although the sessions are free, seats are limited so booking is essential. Please e-mail asa.seminars@gmail.com.
