Big Fish

If you are a female movie buff, a film nut and a obsessive-compulsive cinema-goer who has been desperate to go to film school but could not afford it, here is the chance of a lifetime.

There are still four places left on the award-winning Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking’s fully sponsored National Certificate in Filmmaking: Drama (NQF 5). Young women who have already shown their commitment to fiction film and have done some hard time in the trenches of film production can apply.

The course aims to:

  • Expand on current knowledge and skills of those who have already proved commitment and passion to the industry;
  • Create simulated and actual workplace experience for participants; and
  • Assist predominantly previously disadvantaged individuals who have had little or no formal training or who have had to “drop out” of previous projects due to lack of funds.

Course content includes technical specialisation in directing, cinematography, production management, editing, sound, research and scriptwriting. The course is practical, hands-on and project focused.

DURATION: 10 months

TIMES: Full time, Monday to Friday

COST: Fully sponsored tuition

APPLICATION CRITERIA: A show reel or script (it’s OK if it is work in progress) and a minimum of three years’ experience in the film and TV industry or previous tertiary training.

Tutoring and mentoring is by South Africa’s leading professionals using state-of-the-art equipment. Only individuals available for the full duration of the course on a full-time basis should apply.

To apply, contact Connie Mosegedi on 011 482 5599 or email on mosegedic@bigfish.org.za.

Deadline for applications is 30 November 2011.
