JMPDThe Gauteng Film Commission wishes to advise the industry of an increase in road traffic control tariffs introduced by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) as of 1st of July 2010, which was only implemented in November 2010.

The tariffs and charges levied by the JMPD were last reviewed by the Council and the tariffs were increased from R485 to R560 an hour.

This follows complaints that film crew are increasingly being charged for access to locations and venues in Johannesburg or in some instances are refused access completely. According to the GFC, such reports give credence to perceptions that Johannesburg is becoming :film unfriendly".

“We have raised these concerns with the City and have stressed the importance of ensuring consistency in price increase of the tariffs .This, we believe, is not only in the interest of the film industry but is vital to the marketing and tourism efforts of the City of Johannesburg,” Tselane concludes.
