Big Fish, an award-winning film school, is offering fully sponsored tuition towards a certificate in documentary filmmaking at NQF 5, with women in particular encouraged to apply.

The objectives of the training are to:

  • Expand on current knowledge and skills of those who have already proved commitment and passion to the industry
  • Create simulated and actual workplace experience for participants
  • Assist predominantly previously disadvantaged individuals who have had little or no formal training or who have had to drop out of previous projects due to lack of funds.

Training is project-focused and the course content includes technical specialisation in directing, cinematography, production management, editing, sound, research and scriptwriting.

Duration: 10 months, starting July 2011

Times: Full time, Monday to Friday and sometimes on Saturdays

Cost: The bursary excludes accommodation costs

Application criteria

  • Applicants must have passed matric.
  • Applicants should have either a minimum of three years working experience in the film industry or s previous qualification in any aspect of filmmaking.
  • The bursary is only available to South African citizens under the age of 36.
  • Applicants must be available for the full 10-month duration of the course.
