From Page to Screen

Aspiring screenwriters who want to wave their creative wand and turn words into action are invited to join the Writing Studio's From Page to Screen weekend workshop at the Film Factory in Johannesburg on 2 and 3 July.

The practical workshop gives writers a hands-on opportunity to turn their ideas into a story outline, write a pivotal scene from their outline, and pitch their concepts to a group of professional directors and actors. The directors will step on board as team leaders and guide the writers of the most provocative concepts through the process of selecting actors from the group to bring the scene to life. The scenes will then be rehearsed, blocked and filmed – all in one weekend.

During the workshop writers will work with trainer Daniel Dercksen, who will guide them through the process of conceptualising ideas, writing story outlines that sizzle, and mastering the art of card outlines.

It is a practical workshop where writers write and get a unique opportunity of seeing their thoughts and words in action.

It is also an opportunity for them to explore their talent as a directors, actors or producers and ground their careers as South African storymakers.

The workshop takes place from 9am until 6pm on both days (July 2 and 3) at The Film Factory in Industrial Park, Strijdompark.

The From Page to Screen workshop was also on at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town on June 25 and 26, with 4 scenes filmed successfully at the end of the weekend.
