The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) would like to congratulate Elwelwani for scooping 11 awards at the African Movie Academy Awards, Man on Ground for winning four awards at the Africa Magic Viewer Choice Awards, and all the South African Film and Television Academy (Safta) award winners.

On another note, winners of 48-Hour Film Project, an initiative supported by GFC, recently screened their films at the Filmapalooza Festival in Hollywood, Los Angeles, where a film from Cape Town – Past Tense by Bench Films – won second runner-up from all the many films screened.

The Safta awards were held on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

The highlight of the second night’s award ceremony was the surprise appearance of Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson, who together with NFVF Council Chairperson Mmabatho Ramagoshi presented the best actress in a feature film award. Jackson is in town shooting his latest movie, Kite.
