South Africans can watch former president Nelson Mandela's biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, for free this month as part of Nelson Mandela International Day commemorations.

The day, which is marked on the late statesman's birthday 18 July, calls on people to give 67 minutes of their time for a good cause.

Videovision Entertainment, The Nelson Mandela Foundation and Ster-Kinekor have teamed up to celebrate Madiba by making the film available to the public at no cost. The screenings will take place on 18 July 2014 at 09h45 at selected Ster-Kinekor cinemas across South Africa.

The film, which celebrates Nelson Mandela's extraordinary life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his election as President of South Africa, is an inspirational film which will motivate people to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.  Having the first show on 18 July as a free screening will hopefully enable the public to watch the film and be inspired by its message and then go into their communities and make an effort to live up to the motto of Mandela Day – "Take Action. Inspire Change. Make every day a Mandela Day".

The Gauteng Film Commission support and promote local  content and encourages all South Africans to give themselves time to watch this historic movie.
