saftecCelebrated Zimbabwean writer, cultural activist and filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga will be one of the distinguished guests attending the inaugural Tshwane One City Film Festival, to be held at the South African State Theatre from 10 August to 17 August 2014.

The Tshwane One City Film Festival is a pioneering nation building festival, designed to promote and celebrate African cinema from around the world. The festival is dedicated to the empowerment and development of emerging African filmmakers, particularly women from historically disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to enter the film industry and tell their own stories.

Tsitsi has over the past two decades become an important and well respected voice for the advancement of African women in both literature and cinema. She is a founding member of the Zimbabwe Women Filmmakers Organization and has established the Institute of Creative Arts for Progress in Africa. Her film credits include Neria, Flame, Everyone's Child and Mother's Day.

As part of the main festival programme, Tsitsi will be conducting a workshop on the fundamentals of film adaptation and the role of literature in cinema. The workshop is expected to attract aspiring filmmakers and writers from all regions across South Africa, in particular those who wish to transform published stories into film and television projects

The workshop is free and will be held at the National Library of South Africa, Pretoria on the 11 August .
