4 February
7:30/8:00 pm
Studio 4:
Cnr Frost Ave and Owl Street, Braamfontein Werf (Milpark), Johannesburg

COUNTRY: South Africa
YEAR: 2014
DIRECTOR: Khalo Matabane
DURATION: 85 min

SYNOPSIS: Khalo Matabane was an idealistic teenager with fanciful ideas about freedom and justice when Mandela was released from prison in 1994. In a personal odyssey, encompassing an imaginary letter to Mandela and conversations, Matabane interrogates the meaning of freedom, reconciliation and forgiveness in today's world of conflict and inequality. In his film, he juxtaposes his own inner quest for coherence and the opinions of ordinary people, politicians, activists, intellectuals, artists and those who knew Mandela - among them Colin Powell, Ariel Dorfman, Pumla Gqola, Wole Soyinka, and the Dalai Lama.
