Here's some fast facts on the South African leg of the production shoot:

A spectacular action sequence between Hulk and Iron Man takes place when the characters do battle against the backdrop of a major metropolitan city. After a successful location scout in late 2013, Marvel decided to set this scene in Johannesburg. A number of locations were used for the epic showdown between the two characters, including Soweto, Yeoville Hill and the CBD.

Shooting took place for 10 days and was one of the biggest productions ever undertaken in Johannesburg, so much so that the shoot made headlines across newspapers, on radio and TV.

The production included of the following local talent: 315 film crew members, 11 cast members, 647 extras, and 26 Johannesburg-based trainees recruited from the AFDA and Big Fish film schools.

The production team worked with over 66 location owners whose venues were featured in the film. One of the locations was Nomzamo, an informal settlement in Soweto. The team also worked with OPH, a company that leases areas of Johannesburg from the City and restores/upgrades parts of the city centre in order to bring back business to the CBD.

The production team worked hand-in-hand with various government departments and state agencies, whose assistance and support was critical due to the immense scope of the scenes being shot and the need to shut down multiple roads and intersections with the city. Support was given by the Gauteng Film Commission, the Office of the Executive Mayor, the City of Joburg Manager, the City of Joburg Communications & Tourism, Events & Management Unit, the Joburg Metro Traffic Police, and Johannesburg City Parks.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron is the sequel to the super-hero blockbuster The Avengers, which is the third-highest grossing film of all time. It was the biggest film of 2012, with box office revenue exceeding US$1.5-billion and a global audience exceeding 200-million.

The film, which follows the adventures of a super-hero team that includes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk, is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series "The Avengers," first published in 1963.

Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in South African cinemas on 24 April 2015.
