Gugu Zulu and his wife Letshego

The GFC is saddened by the loss of the amazing Gugu Zulu, who was South Africa's pride and joy, especially to the youth that he inspired to live a healthy and productive lifestyle.

The Gauteng Film Commission would like to extend condolences to the family, friends and adoring fans of uMageba, who died too soon on the Trek4Mandela hike up Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this month.

The 38-year-old racing driver and TV personality had joined the annual Trek4Mandela team event with his wife Letshego in aid of a schoolgirls' charity drive.

Soweto-born Gugu had a reputation as one of South Africa’s finest rally drivers, and had been part of the Volkswagen works team. Known affectionately as the Fastest Brother in Africa, uMageba died after developing breathing difficulties on the upper slopes of Kilimanjaro.

He is survived by his wife, his family, friends, and baby daughter Lelethu.
