Jozi film fans will have a unique opportunity to interact with local filmmakers and enjoy a behind-the-scenes as well as an outdoor movie experience at the Gauteng Film Commission/Newtown Junction Open Air Cinema event on Heritage Day.

Spring vibes will meet local love at a fun outdoor fair celebrating South African films and Africans telling African stories.

The event will provide an enjoyable way of marking Heritage Day, as well as a casual networking platform - both for the growing number of fans whose support is driving a new era of growth in Gauteng's film industry, and for young filmmakers looking for ways of getting into the industry.

Entry is R150 per person, and includes welcome drinks, canapés and bottomless popcorn, along with access to the full programme of events taking place at Newtown Junction mall from 6pm on Heritage Day, Saturday, 24 September.

Guests will be able to join in the casual conversation with film crew members from the evening's featured movie during the Reel Talk programme, and to take a behind-the-scenes journey through an exhibition of film artefacts and memorabilia.

And for indie filmmakers looking to break into the industry mainstream, there's a chance to get your short film or documentary screened publicly in Newtown Junction's centre court.

An open call has been issued to indie filmmakers to submit their productions, by 10 September at the latest, for consideration for the Open Air indie-screening programme - click here to the press release.

A networking cocktail party with complementary light meals and cash bar will follow, and the evening will round off with an outdoor screening of the featured film on an inflatable 4-by-7-metre screen.
