Open Air Cinema PIC NIC experience

Popcircles and Work Shop New Town join forces to present the Open Air Cinema PIC NIC experience, an outdoor film and documentary screening of locally produced features, in celebration of the South African youth narrative, this Heritage Day, Saturday 24 September.

It all takes place under the stars on the PIC NIC lawns at the trendy creative hub of Work Shop New Town in the pedestrianized precinct of Newtown Junction.

Open Air Cinema PIC NIC offers fans of #FilmZA the opportunity to not only view Ayanda, a 2015 South African film directed by Sara Blecher, and other independent short films and doccies; but to also meet the makers behind some of the most compelling stories on the youth experience in urban spaces.

GFC to host Reel Talk: A conversation on #FilmZa

Hosted in association with Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), the event introduces Reel Talk: A conversation on #FilmZa and storytelling as a creative expression/experience and a chat with GFC on opportunities available for aspiring film-makers, screenplay writers and storytellers.

In addition, the meet-the-makers live series, an interactive open-floor experience with the creatives behind some of the featured works, will allow the audience to meet key industry players in a casual setting.

Speakers will include Odi Esterhuyse, Creative Director at Umuzi, and Tsholofelo Maseko, television presenter, actress and storyteller on Ephasini Lamabhudango, as well as members of the Ayanda film crew.

Au Gold Vodka will treat guests to welcome drinks, and bottomless complimentary popcorn will be on offer throughout the night. Additional food and beverages will be available to purchase through TOWN dim sum bar and The Potato Shed.
