leratoKagiso Modupe’s debut film Losing Lerato, a story about a successful father who loses everything including his daughter and will do anything to get her back, continues to pull in cinemagoers after a spectacular opening weekend on 13 September, and is leading at the box office at several cinemas around the country.

The film’s takings increased by 25% over weekend two in its third weekend. It is now playing at 36 sites and held its number 1 position at Ster Kinekor’s Sterland, Mall of the North, Maponya, Rustenburg, Mall@Carnival, and Newtown Junction, and at NuMetro’s LochLogan in Bloemfontein, Westgate, and Mams Mall in Mamelodi, and also at The Gables Moviezone in Swaziland. In addition to the excellent attendances at these cinemas, it’s also in second position in Newcastle and Welkom where the film is doing great business.

“We are thrilled to see that it’s on winning streak and has also held its position on the top ten in South Africa since its release,” says Modupe, who also produced the film and stars as the desperate father Thami, along with his daughter in the role of Lerato. “The film is an authentic and heartfelt tale that is clearly resonating with local audiences as it touches on real-life issues that affect many of us.”

Losing Lerato is a beautifully told action/thriller about a young black man who takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping his daughter – after life, the law and the woman he once loved, separate him from her. His actions put him on a collision course with the police and he finds himself in a high-stakes hostage situation.

Losing Lerato is distributed in South Africa by Indigenous Film Distribution.
