In a highly competitive industry, making good content available to audiences is no longer enough. Filmmakers and producers need to be able to cut through the noise that fills the attention of mass audiences on digital platforms and create a lasting impact in the marketplace for their films.

The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) has noted the need for these skills to be cultivated within our industry, and has appointed Black Seed Film Hub to run a free online class specifically created for filmmakers and producers on how to create a presence their films online. This will be through digital and social media skills development training in a two-day Digital Media Masterclass. The class will be trained by Andiswa Biyela, a digital media content specialist and producer with over 10 years’ experience in the online media environment. She has worked on multiple TV formats; Big Brother, Idols, Survivor and Pan-African TV channels. Masterclass attendees will be taught on how to best use social media to get audiences to engage with content, as well as tactics on reaching even bigger online audiences.

The class dates are 12 + 13 August 2021, and is structured into two half-days of online attendance. By the end of the class, attendees will have an understanding of how social media platforms work in a practical sense; unpacking the role of social media, digital strategy and how to create a marketing campaign for your film. Black Seed Film Hub is a 100% black female-owned company with over 40 years combined experience in the film and television industry by its directors.

Application opens on 14 July and closes on 30 July 2021.
