Got an idea for a killer feature film but need some help with production? Fineline Productions is calling for submissions for narrative feature film production. Submissions need to have a strong commercial bent, especially in the genres of action adventure, drama, romance, comedy or thriller.

The company, in association with the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), plans to develop nine feature projects and produce three of them within three years. And if a selected project does not have a director or producer attached, Fineline Productions will appoint people.

Projects that are successfully pitched “will undergo a strong development process, especially in the areas of writing, directing and producing”, says the company. Each application should include a one page story synopsis, a one page project motivation, and one page biography of key personnel such as the writer, producer and director.

To be considered, the projects have to meet several criteria:

  • The writer/s, producer and director must be black.
  • Writers must have written at least one dramatic fictional work that has been accepted for publication, or must have written at least one script of no less than 24 minutes long that has been produced, or must have graduated from an accredited film school with good references or the NFVF writers’ programme.
  • Directors must have directed at least one fictional short film, or two episodes of a television drama that has been accepted for broadcast, or a feature film that has been accepted either for distribution or screening by an accredited film festival.
  • Producers must have a track record of at least two years in the film and/or television industry. Experience in production, production accounting, distribution, writing or directing will lend weight to an application.

Selected applicants will have to pitch their projects to a panel in Johannesburg, at a date still to be confirmed.

Applications must be in by Monday, 10 September 2012 to be considered. Enquiries or electronic submissions can be sent to The postal address is:
